Biography
Born in The Bronx, New York, September, l946. Graduated in Art with a minor in Philosophy from Union College, Schenectady, New York, 1969. Attended Columbia University School of Architecture, 1967-68. Since 1975, Mr. Kobland has produced independent film, video and media art works, including a number of performance/media pieces for theatrical presentation in collaboration with THE WOOSTER GROUP, the New York based experimental theater.
Mr. Kobland's work has been included in numerous film and video festivals such as: Ann Arbor, CinemaTexas, Bellevue, Sinking Creek, Athens (Ohio), Atlanta Film Festival, American Film Festival (Film-as-Art), San Francisco Film Festival (Golden Gate Awards), Black Maria Film/Video Festival, Montreal, Oberhausen (West Germany), Hyeres (France), Melbourne (Australia), Montbeliard (France), Rotterdam, Video Week (Geneva), World-Wide (Holland), Lucarno (Switzerland), VideoKunst (Karlsruhe), the New York Video and Film Festival, and at the Berlin Film Festival - International Forum. In addition his work has been represented in group shows in London, Paris, Sidney, Budapest, Warsaw, Amsterdam,Tokyo and Bangkok. |

Berlin International Film Festival 2000, New York Video Festival, Lucarno Video Art, World Wide Video Fest-Amsterdam, Rotterdam Film Festival. It has won awards at the San Francisco International Film Festival 2000, 8th Biennale of Moving Images-Geneva and at Film und Architektur Biennale-Graz in 1999.
THE SHANGHIAED TEXT (1996)
New York Video Festival, VideoArt-Karlsruhe, Germany, Media Biennial-Warsaw, 8th International Video Week-Geneva, The Rotterdam Film Festival, San Francisco Film Festival, and BlackMaria Festival. It won awards at Three-Rivers Film /Video Festival and at Ann Arbor. In 1998 it was shown on thirteen-WNET, NY as part of the series REEL NY.
MOSCOW X (1994)
Produced by ITVS and aquired byARTE-TV, the French/German cultural channel for broadcast in Europe in 1998.
WRONG GUYS (1997)
Work-in-Progress in collaboration with THE WOOSTER GROUP, part of the Whitney Biennial in 1997, at the Independent Feature Film Market, NYC in 1997 and the Berlin and Rotterdam Feature Film Market in 1998.
